    Change The World Through Data

Automated Machine Learning for fast experiments and prototypes – Philipp Singer & Dmitry Gordeev

Automated machine learning aims at automating the process of applying machine learning to real-world problems and is one of the current hot trends in data science. In this talk, we provide a generic introduction to the topic and highlight arguments of why AutoML is important and how it can foster the data science throughput within companies. We provide an overview of the current landscape, discuss customer success stories, and showcase how AutoML can help to build fast experiments and prototypes in practice.

    Program starts at 13:00 CET.

Security Predictions – Wisdom of Crowds - Dragan Pleskonjic

Why is an online security and data protection so important in the modern world and how we may protect ourselves in a digital environment? Security Predictions is an experimental web site. It has been built to harness the 'wisdom of crowds'. Experiment how we can use crowd-sourced security intelligence to predict future events. Dragan Pleskonjic is Senior Director Application Security at IGT (formerly GTECH), as well as Initiator and Founder of the R&D projects: INPRESEC (Intelligent Predictive Security), Glog, Security Predictions. He has rich experience in creating and managing start-ups, new business development, leading management positions in international corporations, and expertise in information security, computer software and networks industry. He is recognized worldwide as one of the leading experts in the field of cyber and software security, and ML & AI implementation in this area.

    Program starts at 14:00 CET.

Individual Machine Learning-based Robo Advisory Portfolio Strategy Selection - Ronald Hochreiter

There are literally millions of quantitative investment strategies available - either published or unpublished, depending on their success in real market environments. Contemporary Deep Learning methods as well as the availability of alternative data allow for completely new structures of models to compute clever decisions for successful investment management, e.g. by using convolutional layers to examine images of various technical indicator charts or by integrating satellite images. Unfortunately it has also been shown that no technique will ever outperform the market over a reasonable long period of time. However, a clever semi-automatic selection of sophisticated and heterogeneous underlying investment models can facilitate investment magic. By using Interpretable Machine Learning techniques like standard CARTs the output of some meta-ensemble model can even be used to create a feedback loop with the respective investor. In this regard we present an application from the field of app-based Robo Advisory Portfolio Strategy Selection. Ronald Hochreiter is Associate Professor of Finance at Webster Vienna Private University and Principal Investigator of various national and EU research projects at WU Vienna University of Economics and Business. He is senior partner at algorithmic.finance, a boutique consulting company tailoring bespoke Quantitative Asset Management Solutions for investment companies worldwide. Furthermore he is Associate Editor of the Journal 'Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence - AI in Finance' and President of the Academy of Data Science in Finance.

    Program starts at 14:30 CET.

    Networking session 1

Networking will be done on our Discord Channel - invitation may be found in the schedule, or by clicking on the link.
First session are going to activate Room 1: Data & AI for Good & Room 2: Data-Driven Decision
Every attendee will get a chance to present themselves in three separate rounds:
    First-round - Present yourself, your position, your company, your country and leave your profile in the comment, limit yourself to 30 seconds; Second round - Tell us why did you choose to participate in this Networking Room and what you would like to get from it, limit yourself to 45 seconds; Third round - Tell us a bit more about what do you do in the field of the Room name, limit yourself to 60 seconds;

Important notice 1: Think about what you would like to say, write down on the paper, take your camera on, and write down your full name during registration. Important notice 2: You will need to create your own Discord profile to participate in the discussions.

    Program starts at 15:00 CET.

How hot is your data: the role of data centres and AI in global warming - Alex Palladini

In the last few years, the data center industry has witnessed a major change in the global compute capability, with an increasing shift of workloads from on-premise infrastructure to the cloud. A new study revealed that datacenters computing output jumped six-fold from 2010 to 2018, with a general energy consumption rise of about 6%. In 2030, the energy consumption related to Internet traffic is expected to increase by 21% and 5G is going to be one of the main drivers of the next “data explosion“. Given that picture, how can the data industry limit its energy consumption and, consequently, mitigate its impact on the environment and on global warming?

    Program starts at 15:45 CET.

Smart Capex Planning - Valentina Djordjevic

Valentina is a huge Data Science enthusiast. She faced the challenge of packing her (then irreconcilable) interests into a unique career path-cutting machine. Still, she is a real 'fox' when it comes to her areas of interest, so we have no doubt that this has given her good signposts. In her talk 'Smart Capex Planning' she will lead us through TelCo use case. The goal of Smart Capex Planning is automatizing and improving current processes of making strategic decisions such as frequency band acquisition, integration of new sites, upgrading to new carriers, prolonging licenses, introducing new technologies, etc. The Smart Capex Module is dedicated to finding the answers to the questions when, where, what to invest in, how much will it cost, and what is the expected ROI - which are the essential key points used in the strategic decision making. Embedded machine learning aims to facilitate the decision-making process about important and strategic investments. The main idea is to incorporate network traffic and performance indicators together with financial aspects into the ML frame.

    Program starts at 16:15 CET.

Fireside Chat: An enterprise Data Strategy with Mario Meir-Huber

Data is not only a technical challenge, but also an organisational. Data must touch all parts of an organisation and thus it should be reflected by various functions. There is a need to (up)skill existing employees, adjust the organisational structure and introduce KPIs to the organisation where the impact of data can be measured.

    Program starts at 16:45 CET.

Instalment Detector: Revealing the Transaction Footprint - Dominik Matula

We are living in a world of relations. Every click on a link, every article, image or video you have seen, every like you have given – those all make relations between you and some content. This fact is not applicable to social media exclusively. In the land of banking transactions, you are creating relations by sending and receiving money. Real, hard-earned money. Therefore, every relation is even stronger! Analysing transaction footprints is another key to your client’s mind. Does he spend a lot on betting? Probably not the person you’d like to lend money to. Is he donating some money to charity? Bad time to offer a loan, try some investment products instead. In this talk, we will describe the process of transaction classification used in one of our products, ‘Instalment detector’, developed for one of the major European banks.

    Program starts at 18:00 CET.

Transparency and availability of data in the time of crisis - Gojko Galonja

Transparency and availability of data in the time of CoViD-19 crisis has shown as the major problem and has created a lot of problem in the wider public. It is important to make all of the data available on one place, but also to ensure that the data is trustworthy.

    Program starts at 18:30 CET.
